P01 Handout

Project 01: Prompt to Web App
Due: Tuesday 11:59 pm
Create a web app using Lovable, a prompt-to-app AI tool. If you are concerned about privacy, use Purple (UW) instead. Follow either the Lovable instructions OR Purple instructions, not both!

Lovable

Prerequisites: Create a Lovable account, then use the given code to upgrade to Pro.

You have 40 minutes. Use Lovable and come up with a cool web app. Ask Lovable if you need ideas. Start in Chat mode. Tell Lovable your idea and have it ask you questions and draft a plan before you let it build. Your first build prompt is your specification. Iterate until it does what you want. You’ll turn in every message you send, in order, so keep the chat. Use the annotation tool at least once: in the preview toolbar, select the part you want changed, or draw on it, and describe the change. More information about using annotation tools can be found here.
If you’d rather keep your work inside UW, use the Purple section of this handout instead.

Turnin

Submit on the Project 1 assignment in Canvas using the Text Entry submission type:

  1. The published link to your app, on the first line of the text box.
  2. Every message you sent Lovable, in order, as numbered paragraphs (1. 2. 3.) after the link. Only include your prompts and not model responses.
  3. A PNG or JPG screenshot of the annotation tool used after your prompt inputs. (Canvas text submission supports images!)

Here’s a submission example.

Purple

Prerequisites: Sign into UW Purple using your UW credentials.

You have 40 minutes. Use UW Purple and come up with a cool web app. It runs inside UW, so your prompts and your app stay private. Ask Purple if you need ideas. Purple has no plan mode, so make one. Before you ask for code, ask Purple to draft a plan and to ask you questions about what you want. Then tell it to build. Iterate until it does what you want. You’ll turn in every message you send, in order, so keep the chat. Annotate at least once: screenshot the region you want changed and send it to Purple with the change you want.
If you’d rather have the app published for you, use the Lovable section of this handout instead.

Turnin

Submit on the Project 1 assignment in Canvas using the File Upload submission type. Upload everything below as separate files in one submission.

  1. The html file Purple wrote.
  2. Every message you sent Purple, in order, as numbered lines (1. 2. 3.) in one plain text file named prompts.txt.
  3. Each screenshot you sent Purple, as its own PNG or JPG file, named screenshot-1.png, screenshot-2.png, and so on. No zip is required.
